Overcoming Agoraphobia

Overcoming Agoraphobia

Overcoming agoraphobia sounds like it could be a difficult job using medication or psychotherapy of some sort.  Once you understand what agoraphobia is and how simply it can be cured, you will begin to understand how overcoming agoraphobia isn’t such a dream but more a definite reality.

Overcoming agoraphobia starts with understanding the truth about the condition from the inside out.  Agoraphobia is a normal, expected reaction to high anxiety.  When we become scared by something, it is natural to retreat from it, especially if  it is particularly frightening or threatening. But in anxiety disorder, there is no real threat present so the anxiety you experience is ‘false fear’.

What do I mean by this?  Under normal circumstances, when we are confronted by a real threat, the ‘fight or fight’ response is activated in order to prepare us for fighting or fleeing from a threat. But in anxiety conditions, the only threat we perceive is the threat we believe we under from the symptoms of the anxiety. So, this is false fear.

Because anxiety, by nature, causes us to feel afraid, we retreat from those places where we have experienced high anxiety, until, eventually we are confined to a very small space indeed. Confined by a ‘real’ threat?  No, confined by the fear of fear.

Because agoraphobia causes us to limit our geographic movements and feel threatened by being away from a person or place which represents ‘safety’, in our minds, agoraphobia sufferers find it very difficult to believe that a true and permanent agoraphobia recovery is possible.

Agoraphobia can manifest itself in many ways but most sufferers feel frightened by the concept of being away from home, being away from people they trust and feel unable to travel by public transport, drive alone or even travel anywhere away from a trusted place.

Agoraphobia recovery can be swift, if the sufferers follows a process that deactivates the anxiety that causes and perpetuates it.  Overcoming Agoraphobia lies in the process that is ‘reverse engineered’ from the cause of the high anxiety.
